About BA in European Studies (2 specialisations):
The 3-year BA programme provides students with a strong foundation in European politics, culture, and society, while emphasising Europe’s role within the broader global context. Key concepts — such as culture, identity, diversity, democratic processes, Europeanisation, and globalisation — are explored in an interdisciplinary manner. By analysing European affairs through sociological, political, and economic perspectives, students gain a cross-sectional understanding of the many challenges shaping contemporary societies. The programme equips students with analytical tools to interpret current events and understand complex political and socio-economic processes. It also prepares them for further study in political science, international relations, and related social science fields. From the second year onwards, students choose one of two specialisations aligned with their academic interests and thesis topics.
All courses are taught in English by leading academics and practitioners. Students receive intensive training in academic English, study foreign languages, and may participate in study trips to neighbouring countries. The programme also offers internship opportunities at partner institutions in Poland and across Europe.
Academic specialisations
1. Governing Europe and Central Eastern European Politics
This specialisation provides an in-depth understanding of political systems, governance structures, and policymaking processes across Europe and the Central and Eastern European (CEE) region. Students develop strong academic and methodological skills while engaging with topics such as comparative politics, EU governance, human rights law, and more.
They explore post-1989 political transformations in the CEE region and analyse contemporary challenges including illiberalism, populism, and democratic backsliding.
Graduates are prepared for careers in public administration, national and international institutions and organisations, EU structures, NGOs, media, publishing, and related sectors. The programme also forms a solid basis for graduate and postgraduate studies.
2. Social Change in Europe
This specialisation explores the transformative forces reshaping European societies today. Students analyse digitalisation, environmental movements, social activism, protest dynamics, and gender politics, as well as Europe’s responses to technological disruption, green transitions, migration and mobility, and evolving societal models.
With an interdisciplinary curriculum supported by strong methodological training, graduates are well prepared for careers in social research, policy analysis, advocacy, international organisations, NGOs, or media. The programme is also an excellent foundation for further academic study at graduate and postgraduate levels.
Graduate Profile
Graduates obtain a comprehensive understanding of key traditional and contemporary trends in European society, culture, politics, and economy. They are equipped with analytical and methodological competencies essential for careers in public administration, EU institutions, national and international organisations, NGOs, international companies, cultural institutions, and the media. The programme also prepares students for further academic development at the MA and PhD levels.
