About Fine Arts, MFA - at Umeå University

Umeå Academy of Fine Arts is a part of the Arts Campus. Since 2012 you can find us in new, modern premises, beautifully located by Umeå river. As a student you will get a good insight to and understanding for the role of art in today's society and how it has evolved over time. Moreover, you practise your ability to analyze, debate and write about art from a critical point of view. Focus is on your own individual artistic expression. In the master programme you deepen these abilities and you devote even more time to your own artistic work.

We have every year a large number of applicants of which 15-20 stdents are admitted to each programme. In total there are approximately 75 students at the school. Apart from our Bachelor's and Master's programme in Fine Arts we usually offer one or more summer courses each year.

Student

Joost Vossers - Master's Degree in Artificial Intelligence

“What do you think about the programme and the teachers/teaching?

The programme is awesome! My programme is not that big, which makes it possible to form close relations with teachers and supervisors. Like I said, it’s quite diverse, and I’ve learned a lot about the different directions to pursue after my studies. Because of the small scale, the teachers are really involved with students, and they want to hear from us to improve their courses based on what we are interested in.”

Franziska Paul - Master's Programme in Business Development and Internationalism

“What is it that you like with the program so far?

I especially like the practical orientation and the fact that we had the chance to directly work together with well-established companies. Other than that, I like that the modules are run one after the other so you can fully concentrate on each of them.”
